What computer should I buy???

September 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Knowing anything about a computer can be both a gift and a curse. Knowing how a computer works means you get all kinds of questions from people who need help. I’m usually quite happy to help most technical problems but the one question I get almost once a week is the question of what computer to buy.

This question is the same as asking a mechanic what car I should buy, or asking a personal trainer what work out should do? The answers are specific to each person there are thousands of work out plans, cars, and computers and the answer depends on what you need out of each.

So I am going to leave this issue up to my students.

You will each be resonsible for purchasing your own computer. You determine what you need and I will show you how to shop around and find the right parts. You already know about what type of parts and components you need so you can use that as your shopping list.

Your goal should be to find the best computer with the most features within your price range.

You should try to make your computer as functional and cool as possible.

For submission you will need to submit an itemized list of all the parts of your computer, the price breakdown, and maybe a picture if available.

Focus on personal computers, not laptops or macs.

Things to consider:

What are you using the computer for??? What are your requirement? Define them.

Will this computer last you a long time?

How easy will it be to upgrade later?

You will also have to submit 2 paragraphs describing all the features of your computer, and why you chose certain parts/component over other choices.

Budget:

You are to design the entire computer within the agreed upon budget.

A printed copy of your response and computer description are to be submitted.

Happy Shopping.
